Legendary Silk Road
15-day special train journey from Uzbekistan via Tajikistan to Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
On this journey, you are the centre of your own fairy tale from 1001 Nights. Encounters with the land and its people, delicious specialities and pleasant travels in the carriages of the comfortable Orient Silk Road Express on the Silk Road in Central Asia, which is otherwise difficult to explore, allow you to discover a legendary region in comfort.
The Must-sees of the trip
- Khiva – a fairytale in stone from 1001 nightsToday you will visit the oasis of Khiva – a fairytale in stone from 1001 nights. Standing in front of the mighty city wall with its gates and bastions made of mud bricks, you will feel as if you have been transported to another world. Around the Kalta Minor minaret, life still pulsates like in the old days. You can take in all the sights on a tour: Palaces, mosques, minarets, mausoleums and madrasahs form one of the best-preserved ensembles of medieval oriental town planning. You will spend the night on board.
- Bukhara, the noble cityLocated in the centre of the Kysylkum desert, Bukhara has around a thousand monuments that are reminiscent of the heyday of the Great Silk Road. In the old town, you can see the almost 50 metre high Kaljan Minaret and the Labi-Hauz ensemble by the pond. In front of the monument to Nasreddin, an oriental version of Till Eulenspiegel, you can listen to some of his jokes and legends. In the courtyard of a madrasah you will experience a show with music, local dances and a presentation of colourful national costumes.
- Dushanbe (Tajikistan)After arriving in Dushanbe in the morning, you will discover the numerous sights of the Tajik capital on a tour. One of the city’s ubiquitous parks provides relaxation in the countryside: take a break in the idyllic Rudaki Park. In the late afternoon, you return to your special train and set off in the direction of Samarkand. (FMA)
