The Must-sees of the trip
- World Expo in ŌsakaFrom 13 April to 13 October 2025, the next World Expo will take place on the man-made island of Yumeshima in the port area of Osaka. This is primarily focussed on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): With only five years until 2030 – the year the United Nations has set as the target for realising the SDGs – Expo 2025 is set to play a significant role in this. In total, over 150 countries and 25 international organisations as well as various NGOs, NPOs and other companies are participating, working together in numerous pavilions and facilities to “bring together the world’s knowledge, stimulate the development of new technologies and innovations and expand investment at home and abroad”, while at the same time conveying the diversity of Japanese culture to guests. Underpinning the Expo’s theme are the three interlinked sub-themes “Saving Lives”, “Empowering Lives” and “Connecting Lives”. In addition, thematic projects will be launched by eight different creatives – including artists, filmmakers and university professors – to complement the Expo’s supporting programme.
- OsakaOsaka is only a short journey away from Tokyo on the Shinkansen, but has a very different character to the Japanese capital. Take the bullet train and you’ll be in the middle of the exciting nightlife, enjoying specialities and meeting friendly, straight-talking locals. In addition to many shopping opportunities and modern attractions, Osaka also has a historical side. The highlight is Osaka Castle. The castle is a great place to learn more about Japanese history and explore the beautiful landscape, especially during Sakura, the cherry blossom season in April, when the weather is usually particularly beautiful.
- KyotoExplore Kiyomizu Temple, Sannenzaka shopping street, attend a kaiseki lunch with maiko performance and visit the Golden Pavilion (Kinkakuji Temple). Afterwards you will see the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest.
