Crete
LuxairTours offers its youngest guests a very special welcome in the LUXiClubs, which can be found in several partner hotels. Here, children and their parents are lovingly welcomed and looked after in an environment specially designed for them with fun and entertainment. With LUXiClub, you can offer your children an unforgettable experience!
In addition to attractive family discounts, these hotels offer accommodation that combines practicality and comfort, as well as services that are tailored to the needs and wishes of each individual. When enrolling in the LUXiClub, every child between the ages of 4 and 12 receives a welcome gift, as well as small rewards during activities. The children enjoy cool activities 6 days a week. During their stay, our mascot LUXi will of course make an appearance and provide unique moments of bonding! For the minis, our carers do craft or colouring sessions, outdoor games or board games, with quiet periods in between. For the Maxis, these activities tend to look more like rallies, sports games, competitions or races. Of course, joint activities are also organised for these two groups.
Experience a special day out where families, children and entertainers come together to spend an eventful day full of unforgettable memories.
The Must-sees of the trip
- Old Town of ChaniaShania, the “Venice of the East”, is characterised by a mixture of Venetian, Ottoman and neoclassical buildings and architecture. The streets are narrow, colourful and picturesque, with flowered balconies, traditional knife shops, Cretan boot shops, lively restaurants and cosy cafés. Don’t miss the beautiful promenade along the Venetian harbour, where you can see the Venetian lighthouse, one of Chania’s landmarks.
- Natural History Museum of CreteThe Natural History Museum of Crete presents not only the natural wealth of the island, but that of the entire eastern Mediterranean. Here you will find, among other things, a discovery centre for children, an earthquake simulator, aquariums and terrariums, a large collection of fossils and a replica of the largest mammal of all time, which lived on Crete 9 million years ago. You can also learn about the geological development of Crete, about plants and organisms that thrive on the island or about extinct and endangered species. The animals are shown in the form of true-to-scale representations (dioramas). The museum also has an outdoor botanical garden.
- Koules FortressThe Venetian fortress of Koules, also known as Castello a Mare (meaning “fortress by the sea”), is one of Heraklion’s most important landmarks and is located at the old harbour. This large, square structure was built in the 16th century to protect the city and was later armed with cannons. From the roof terrace you have a marvellous view of the sea and the city of Heraklion.

Samaria Gorge
The Samaria Gorge is the longest and one of the most impressive gorges in Europe. Perhaps the most popular hiking trail in Greece runs along its course, past varied landscapes, water sources, different types of trees, cliffs, pools and impressive rocks.
The gorge is 18 kilometres long and varies in width between 150 and 3-4 metres at the narrowest point, known as “Sideroportes”. The hike through the gorge starts in “Xiloskalo” in Omalós (1,200 metres above sea level) and takes between 4 and 8 hours, depending on your walking speed.
Lake Kournas
Between the towns of Chania and Rethymnon, on the northern edge of the White Mountains, lies Lake Kournas, the only freshwater lake in Crete.
Trekking on Crete
In addition to the famous Samaria Gorge, there are several other beautiful gorges in Crete where you can go hiking. The gorge of Agios Nikolaos is 4 kilometres long and is framed by the peaks of Ambelakia and Samari. It is considered the most important gorge of Psiloritis and central Crete and was named after the Byzantine chapel of Agios Nikolaos, which is located at its southern entrance. The gorge of Zakros in eastern Crete is also known as the “Gorge of the Dead” because of the Minoan cave tombs found there. The trekking route is 2.5 kilometres long and starts south-east of the village of Zakros, leads through the gorge and ends next to the Minoan palace in Kato Zakros.
