Located between Italy and Switzerland, Lake Maggiore is the second largest lake in Italy with a length of around 65 kilometres. It is famous for the Borromean Islands with their lush gardens and baroque palaces, the picturesque town of Stresa, the hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso and the panoramic views from the summit of Sasso del Ferro. Visitors can enjoy boat trips, hikes and cycle tours. Spring and autumn are the best times to visit, and we advise you to hire a car to explore the area at your own pace.

Excursion to Lake OrtaA tranquil jewel in northern Italy. Surrounded by green hills and picturesque villages such as Orta San Giulio, this lake is smaller and quieter than Lake Maggiore. Discover Orta San Giulio, a small medieval town with a unique charm, and then enjoy a short boat trip to the island of San Giulio, known for its enchanting atmosphere and historic Benedictine abbey. Back on the mainland, a wine tasting with local wines awaits you.
VerbaniaVerbania, located on the western shore of Lake Maggiore in the Piedmont region, is the largest town on the lake and an important ferry terminal. Known for the beautiful botanical gardens of Villa Taranto, Verbania also offers a picturesque promenade along the lake and a historic centre with many sights. The town is less crowded with tourists than the surrounding small villages and offers a more authentic experience. Attractions include the Basilica of San Vittore and the Church of Madonna di Campagna, as well as numerous public parks and gardens.
Excursion to LocarnoThe journey takes you through one of the most beautiful lake regions in Europe with picturesque little villages, lush gardens and impressive mountain landscapes. Locarno, on the Swiss shore of the lake, impresses with its southern flair. Stroll through the old town centre between cafés, shops and markets.

The Borromean Islands

The Borromean Islands, located in Lake Maggiore between Verbania and Stresa, are a group of three small islands and two islets. They are famous for their picturesque surroundings and lush gardens. Isola Bella is famous for its baroque palace and terraced gardens, Isola Madre for its exotic gardens and historic palace and Isola dei Pescatori for its charming fishing village.

The islands, most of which have been owned by the Borromeo family since the 16th century, are a popular tourist destination due to their natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.

The city of Stresa

Charming Italian town known for its beautiful landscape, luxurious villas and art nouveau hotels. With a population of around 4600, Stresa offers a sophisticated atmosphere and is the venue for numerous cultural and musical events. The town is also an ideal starting point for exploring the Borromean Islands and enjoying the panoramic view from the summit of Monte Mottarone.
