Madeira, a Portuguese archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, is known for its breathtaking landscapes, subtropical climate and extraordinary biodiversity. The main island, also called Madeira, is a nature lover’s paradise with its rugged mountains, UNESCO World Heritage-listed laurel forests and spectacular coastline. The capital, Funchal, is a charming city with lush gardens, lively markets and a rich cultural heritage. Madeira is also famous for its fortified wines, colourful festivals and outdoor activities such as hiking along the levadas, diving and paragliding. It is an ideal destination for anyone looking to relax in a natural and authentic environment.

  1. Ponta de São LourençoThe Ponta de São Lourenço is the easternmost point of Madeira. This spectacular peninsula has been a nature reserve since 1982 and is home to unique endemic flora and diverse wildlife, including seabirds and monk seals. The landscape is characterised by volcanic rock formations and steep cliffs that offer breathtaking panoramic views of the Atlantic. The Vereda da Ponta de São Lourenço hike, which is around 3 kilometres long, is very popular among visitors for its breathtaking views and the opportunity to take a dip in Cais do Sardinha.
  2. Hiking along the levadasHiking along the levadas on Madeira is an unforgettable experience that allows you to get to know the island from a unique perspective. The levadas, the irrigation channels built in the 16th century, wind their way through varied landscapes ranging from lush laurel forests, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to steep cliffs and green valleys. Among the most popular hikes are the Levada des 25 Fontes and the Levada do Risco, which offer spectacular views of waterfalls and impressive rock formations. You can fully immerse yourself in Madeira’s unspoilt nature on these often shady paths, which are suitable for different hiking levels.
  3. Porto MonizThe natural pools of Porto Moniz on the north coast of Madeira are a natural wonder formed from volcanic rock. These unique pools allow the crystal-clear sea water to seep away naturally, offering an exceptional swimming experience. The complex is well developed and has modern infrastructure, including sunbathing areas, children’s pools, playgrounds and first aid facilities. The unique beauty of these pools combined with the panoramic views of the coastline make them a must-visit.

Vidamar Resorts Madeira

Estrada Monumental 175 177, São Martinho, 9000-100 Funchal, Portugal

Vidamar Resorts Madeira is located on the sunny south coast of Madeira and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Just a few steps from the centre of Funchal, this harmonious hotel has five restaurants, three saltwater infinity pools (one for children), a dynamic fitness centre and the modern Thalasso Sea Spa right by the sea. From the balcony, the spacious and comfortable rooms offer marvellous views of the sea. The attentive and friendly staff strive to make every stay an unforgettable experience, whether a family holiday, romantic getaway or business trip.

At 1818 metres, Pico do Arieiro is one of Madeira’s highest peaks and offers spectacular panoramic views over the island and the Atlantic Ocean. It can be reached by road from Funchal and is very popular among hikers and photographers, especially because of the breathtaking sunrises.

The summit also serves as the starting point for the famous PR1 Vereda do Areeiro hike, which leads to Pico Ruivo, the highest point in the archipelago.

This excursion takes you to Porto Santo and shows you the 42 square kilometre island, which is located around 40 kilometres north of Madeira. The island has a less pronounced topography than its big sister, with Pico do Facho being the highest point at 517 metres above sea level. The barren landscapes and the golden beach that lines the 7 kilometre long south coast are also in stark contrast to the landscapes of Madeira. Here you can enjoy the way of life and the mild climate and get to know the locals. Most of them live from fishing, the cultivation of cereals, tomatoes, melons, watermelons, figs and the production of very sweet white wine.

This excursion on board the caravel Bonita da Madeira takes you to the most charming and unspoilt places on the island. If you love space and wilderness, don’t hesitate any longer! You will have the opportunity to swim or dive in the unspoilt waters of Abra Bay. A delicious lunch will also be served on board.
