Fascinating New Zealand
Embark on an unforgettable adventure trip through New Zealand and discover the diversity of one of the most fascinating countries in the world. Auckland, Rotorua’s geothermal wonders and the vibrant Maori culture await you on the North Island. The South Island inspires with spectacular landscapes: turquoise-coloured lakes, mighty glaciers, the majestic Milford Sound and the adventure city of Queenstown. A special highlight is a trip on the legendary TranzAlpine train – one of the most beautiful railway lines in the world.

Discover New Zealand’s natural wonders – from Auckland to Milford Sound, between volcanoes, glaciers and fascinating Maori culture.
The Must-sees of the Trip
- Rotorua – TaupoToday’s stage first takes you from Rotorua to Taupo located at the lake of the same name, New Zealand’s largest inland body of water. On the Waikato River you can marvel at the mighty Huka Falls, which you can hear long before you see them: 220,000 litres of water thunder down every second. As you continue southwards, you cross the volcanic Central Plateau and can see the snow-capped peaks of the volcanoes in Tangariro National Park in the distance. Through the fertile farmland of Manawatu and along the so-called Kapiti Coast you reach Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, where dinner awaits you in the hotel restaurant.
- KaikouraAfter a relaxed start to the day, you have the opportunity to take part in various optional activities, such as a boat trip or a scenic flight to observe dolphins, fur seals and the sperm whales that often pass by the coast. Or try some delicious crab or fish at one of the fish and chip shops on the Esplanade. Continue across the Canterbury Plains to Christchurch on the River Avon, the largest city on the South Island, with its innovative architecture, numerous art centres and restaurants.
- OamaruToday’s stage takes you through the town of Oamaru, which has a rich past and proud heritage, enriched by the passionate to quirky characters of the locals. Explore the small shops and galleries in the Victorian streets with their white limestone buildings. The day’s destination is the Scottish-influenced city of Dunedin on Otago Harbour. This afternoon you can explore the “Edinburgh of the Southern Hemisphere” on your own or take the opportunity to go on an optional wildlife cruise along the Otago Peninsula.

Wellington
A day in Wellington should, or rather must, start with a coffee. The city is famous for its “super-cool” cafés. On the morning city tour you will see the parliament building, the so-called “beehive”, Wellington’s prominent Cuba Street and the characteristic red funicular railway.
The drive up the local mountain, Mt Victoria, is rewarded with a wonderful view over the city and the active harbour. The tour ends at the Te Papa National Museum, where you can marvel at the excellent Maori art collection, among other things.

Picton – Kaikoura
The morning ferry crossing to the South Island, which takes you across Cook Strait and through Queen Charlotte Sound to Picton in around 3 hours, is one of the most beautiful boat trips in the world. From Picton, the journey takes you along the rugged east coast and the pink crystallisation pools of the Lake Grassmere Salt Works to Kaikoura. Here you will visit the Kaikoura Wildlife Centre with a presentation on biodiversity and the work of the foundation founded by Sabrina Leucht for the conservation and rehabilitation of local wildlife. Later, enjoy dinner at the ‘Hiku’ restaurant, which means whale fin in the Maori language and combines all the distinctive aspects of Kaikoura, the local cuisine, marine life, dramatic ocean and picturesque mountain ranges.

Queenstown
Today is at your leisure in the “adventure city” of New Zealand and you can choose from a variety of optional activities in Queenstown and the surrounding area. In the evening, enjoy a nostalgic cruise together on the steamship TSS Earnslaw across Lake Wakatipu to Walter Peak Station, a sheep farm, where dinner awaits you at Colonel’s Homestead and an entertaining farm show.
