Vienna: the imperial city
For the tenth time, Vienna is the most liveable city in the world! That’s hardly surprising, given that half the city on the Danube offers parks, the Vienna Woods and even vineyards for leisure activities.
Vienna is a blend of sumptuous architecture, music and picturesque charm. A city that inspires with its avant-garde past and present, which unfolds to the rhythm of the waltz. Vienna’s mix of ancient and contemporary history makes for an exhilarating city tour. Sights are dotted all over the city.
The Must-sees of the trip
- Visit Schönbrunn Palace
Visiting Schönbrunn Palace is like falling in love. Magnificent, natural, with an incomparable view over Vienna, the former summer residence of the Habsburgs still has a striking aura today. Schönbrunn Palace is a work of art in its own right, surrounded by a park that’s perfect for exploring and relaxing. It is no coincidence that the entire site – castle and park – is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. - Visit the Belvedere MuseumThis magnificent Baroque palace houses one of the finest collections of works of art in Austria. With some 430 works on display, the permanent exhibition is an invitation to explore. This superior museum is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Mozart HouseHis home, on the first floor, was a true master’s flat, with four large rooms, two small salons and a kitchen. Indeed, throughout his life, Mozart took great care with appearances, never going without an elegant toilet or buckled shoes. Wolfgang Amadeus undoubtedly spent the happiest years of his life here. In any case, he never kept an address for so long. Mozart was a renowned artist at the time, with a circle of illustrious friends who frequently invited him to perform in noble residences. It was here, in Domgasse, that he wrote some of his most successful works, including his perhaps most seductive opera, “The Marriage of Figaro”.
