Lanzarote offers bizarre landscapes in the Timanfaya Natural Park, oases of verdant palm trees and elaborately landscaped fields. In the small villages, you’ll find whitewashed houses with shutters that reflect the influence of César Manrique.

The Must-sees of the trip

  1. Timanfaya National ParkTo the west of Lanzarote, Timanfaya National Park is a volcanic site covering 5,000 hectares. It is home to the montañas del Fuego (mountains of fire), which are still the site of volcanic activity. You can visit the site by coach, but you won’t be able to get off as access to the park is highly regulated. However, Timanfaya Park is well worth a visit: petrified lava flows, crevasses, craters – nature has not yet reclaimed its rights.
  2. La Corona volcano – Famara cliffsYou will hike from the small village of Ye to the crater of the La Corona volcano. You continue along a lava tunnel to the Famara cliffs. The last part of the hike takes you through the Valley of a Thousand Palms. 9 km | 5 h | ↑700m↓ 300m | medium
  3. Visit the works of art of César ManriqueThis route takes you through Taro de Tahiche, the artist’s former home, then Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes. César Manrique is the artist, painter, sculptor, landscape artist and all-round creator who developed the maximum expression of the union between art, the human hand and nature in Lanzarote, his native island.

Famara Beach

A beautiful sandy beach. It is huge and extends as far as the splendid cliffs to the north. Famara has been nominated as one of the best beaches for learning to surf in the Canary Islands. The weather and the nature of the waves make this beach the perfect place to practice this sport, especially for beginners and intermediate surfers. This is the beach where all the surf schools in Lanzarote teach.

Caldeira del Cuervo

When the first volcanic eruption took place on the morning of 1 September 1730, as a prelude to a series of events that would change the landscape of Lanzarote for years to come, giving it an almost lunar appearance, the first volcano to form was the Caldera del Cuervo or Volcan del Cuervo. The Caldera del Cuervo is therefore not only the classic example of a simple crater, one that fortunately can only explode once, but it is also an inescapable symbol of the transformation of Lanzarote.

Situated in a unique, somewhat apocalyptic setting, the volcano has a unique profile and faces the Black Mountain and Red Mountain on the one hand, and the Timanfaya National Park on the other.
