Cape Verde – Boa Vista
Boa Vista is larger and more authentic than Sal and impresses with its huge dunes and desert landscapes surrounded by a turquoise-coloured sea. The 31 km long and 29 km wide island, also known as the Sahara of the Atlantic, has 55 km of endless, blonde and often deserted beaches. Inland, rocky stretches of land and sandy plains with lush oases promise exciting discoveries.
The Cape Verde Islands off the coast of Senegal, where the famous singer Cesaria Evora grew up, consist of around 15 islands. Each island offers a wild and contrasting landscape with huge dunes, volcanic peaks and lush valleys. The unspoilt beaches are particularly popular for kitesurfing, windsurfing and diving. Culturally, the destination is characterised by Portuguese traditions linked to its history, but also by influences linked to its location at the crossroads of three continents. The place will overwhelm you with its colours, its warm atmosphere and its gentle way of life.
The Must-sees of the trip
- Exploring Sal RéiThis guided walking tour takes you through the alleyways of Sal Réi, which is characterised by its historic buildings and beautiful post-colonial structures. You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the colourful atmosphere of the local fruit and vegetable market and the traditional fish market. The church of St. Isabella, the small fishing port and a tasting of small specialities typical of Boas Vista are also part of the guided tour. You can use your free time to explore the capital on your own.
- The North of the IslandThis tour first takes you to the beach of Ponta Antónia, whose inhospitable surroundings led to the sinking of the Spanish freighter Cabo Santa Maria. The other stage of the tour takes you to the desert of Viana, which is characterised by kilometres of white sand in the centre of the island and whose origin is unknown. Here you have the opportunity to try out sandboarding – a completely new experience (for an extra charge) – or enjoy a refreshing drink in a small bar.
- Cape Verdean specialitiesFor gourmets, Cape Verdean specialities with West African and Portuguese influences are worth a visit to a local restaurant. You should first try the national dish cachupa!
