In search of the Northern Lights
Immerse yourself in the magic of the Northern Lights both on land and at sea on an unforgettable winter cruise along the Norwegian coast.
You’ll be able to admire the natural phenomenon of the Northern Lights both on land and at sea. This traditional cruise along Norway’s coast is particularly unique in the winter months. At the end of the cruise, you will spend the night in small chalets in the midst of northern Norwegian nature and marvel at the celestial spectacle. Another highlight is a king crab safari including dinner and excursions by snowmobile and with huskies.
The Must-sees of the trip
- Sightseeing tour of TrondheimIn the former capital of Norway, you will follow the footsteps of many kings. A statue on the market square is dedicated to the founder of the city, the Viking king Olav I. The famous Gothic Nidaros Cathedral, which is still Norway’s coronation church today, was built in 1070 over the shrine of King Olav the Saint. You can also visit the official residence of the royal family in Trondheim: the rococo-style Stiftsgarden Palace.
- Crossing the Arctic CircleWe are crossing the Arctic Circle! The invisible line lies at 66 degrees 33 minutes north and marks the border to the Arctic region. In winter, the best chance to see the Northern Lights is above this latitude. Even if the Arctic Circle is invisible, the captain will ensure that you remember this moment with the Arctic Circle Ceremony.
- Tour of ÅlesundThe town of Ålesund, known for its Art Nouveau architecture, is the cultural centre of the region. In 1904, a fire reduced much of the town to rubble. When the town was rebuilt, one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau ensembles in Europe was created.
Visit the Art Nouveau Centre (Jugendsstilsenteret) and the KUBE Museum to learn more about the history of Ålesund and its wonderful architecture. Fancy a challenge? The 418 steps leading from the town garden, Byparken, will take you to the viewpoint on Mount Aksla. Your efforts will be rewarded with an incredible view. At the top there is a restaurant and a terrace with a view of the city and the surrounding mountains. You can climb the mountain on the via ferrata, take a little train (the Bytoget) or go by car. Stroll through the streets of a unique town in Norway…
