Aix-en-Provence
Explore the city of Paul Cézanne!
Read Aix like an open book, don’t miss any of its charms, discover its hidden gems, be amazed by its glorious past, its architecture, its heritage and its monuments, enter private palaces, savour amazing anecdotes, walk in the footsteps of Cézanne… All this is offered to you by our guides authorised by the Ministry of Culture and Communication and our street narrators.
The Must-sees of the trip
- Cezanne’s studioIn his studio of light and silence, you will discover the objects that were dear to him, the models for his last still lives, his furniture, his working materials, a thousand intense details that connect you to the works that were created within these walls and are now exhibited all over the world. It is here that you will best feel the presence of the master in his human and everyday simplicity.
- Bastide du Jas de BouffanA guided tour of the Bastide du Jas de Bouffan, now a listed building with its park, will show you what this family estate meant to the painter: a place to live, an anchor point, the setting for his first works and a creative studio. Around the country house, you will also discover the viewpoints that Cézanne favoured to paint around fifty oil paintings and watercolours between 1859 and 1899.
- Carrières de BibémusIn the heart of the Grand Site Sainte-Victoire, the Bibémus quarries reveal their picturesque majesty on a tour around the house where Cézanne stored his paintings and sometimes slept. On this 7-hectare plateau with its exceptional natural architecture, you will emotionally immerse yourself in the master’s creative process (motifs, angles, composition, geometrisation, colours…). And you will understand how Cubism was born here through some world-famous works.
