Strasbourg
As the Tourist Office of Strasbourg and its region wishes to present Strasbourg in all its facets, including the lesser-known ones, it offers themed guided tours throughout the year: “Discovering unusual Strasbourg”, “Romantic Strasbourg”, “Art Nouveau and Art Deco in the historic centre”, “Amazing facades”, “Small squares in old Strasbourg”… Don’t hesitate to have a look at the programme to discover the themed tours planned during your stay!
Street art is very present in Strasbourg nowadays. In consultation with the city council, some artists express themselves in the city’s neighbourhoods. In 2018, the famous New York collective Faile created a 1000 m² ephemeral mural on one of the façades of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. The works are listed on the Street Art Map, an interactive map on which you can discover the best street art spots in Strasbourg. Go on a journey of discovery to see the city from a different perspective…
The Must-sees of the trip
- La Petite FranceLa Petite France (Little France) is the most picturesque and romantic neighbourhood in Strasbourg. Between its canals and half-timbered houses, you have the feeling of being in a postcard landscape.
- The neighbourhood of tanners, fishermen and millersIf la Petite France is popular and bucolic today, this was not always the case. The neighbourhood was built around the River Ill and four canals: Trades that needed a lot of water for their work settled in the neighbourhood. Tanners, millers and fishermen inhabited this part of the city in low-cost half-timbered houses. As a poor and little-visited neighbourhood, it was not really attractive, as the damp soil and the processing of the hides did not have the best smell.
- The NeustadtThe Neustadt was built to make Strasbourg a showcase for Prussian power. It is characterised by its grand squares, its wide, airy, tree-lined avenues, but also by a good combination of monumentality and a strong sense for landscapes. The city is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This astonishing post-Haussmannian neighbourhood displays some architectural extravagances and happily mixes Italian Neo-Renaissance, Neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau. After the destruction of the Second World War, it remains one of the last examples of late 19th century German architecture.

The famous Winstubs
They are the first ambassadors of Alsatian cuisine, which sees itself as generous. Most of them are located in Strasbourg, in the historic neighbourhoods. In one or two of them, which have a typically Alsatian setting, the greats of the world have already sat at the table.
They offer numerous specialities with sometimes unpronounceable names, which are always tasty and accompanied by the best wines of the region. These places are all about socializing.
What can you eat in Strasbourg?
You can’t travel to Strasbourg without trying good sauerkraut, a typical dish. Some Strasbourg restaurants have earned a good reputation with this speciality.
The tarte flambée, which is served on request “until you’ve had enough”, is worth trying for anyone who hasn’t tried it before. It is traditionally shared in the evening by the people of Strasbourg.
The exceptional Alsatian wine-growing region
The great white wines from Alsace have earned a reputation that now extends far beyond its borders. Between Grands Crus, small terroirs and an exceptional diversity of grape varieties, Alsace produces wines of the highest calibre.
Many producers are now turning to the production of organic or natural wines. The Alsace Wine Route is not only a marvellous route along the slopes of the Vosges, but also a wonderful adventure. Connoisseurs can discover some marvellous wines here, including amazing reds.
