Gran Canaria – XMAS Edition
Gran Canaria is one of the most famous beach destinations in the world, but the island has much more to offer, with numerous places for diving, surfing and hiking. You can even climb Roque Nublo, Gran Canaria’s famous peak. With such a varied landscape, it comes as no surprise that the island is also known as the “little continent”.
Subtropical landscapes and dense vegetation, desert-like spaces and vertiginous cliffs or golden beaches – the Canary Islands have so much to offer. Lanzarote, the land of lava and fire, Fuerteventura with its endless beaches, Tenerife dominated by its volcano, Gran Canaria with its majestic dunes reminiscent of the Sahara desert and La Palma with its unspoilt landscapes… They are all different, but all are spoilt by generous sunshine and benefit from a mild climate. This guarantees you a successful beach holiday all year round!
The Must-sees of the trip
- Dunes of MaspalomasThe Dunes of Maspalomas have been a nature reserve since 1987. The area includes a beautiful beach, a natural sand dune field, a palm grove and a brackish lagoon. This unique oasis is surrounded by the famous hotels of the main tourist centre of Maspalomas. Let yourself be carried away by the vastness of the place.
- Viera and Clavijo Botanical GardenAlso known as Jardín Canario, this botanical garden is an ideal place for a stroll. Start at the bottom and work your way up or vice versa. Regardless of your exploration technique, you’ll easily spend a few hours here. You’ll find a rich collection of endemic plants from the Canary Islands and Macaronesia, a section of cacti and succulents and a greenhouse known as the “hidden garden” (el jardín escondido).
- Las Palmas de Gran CanariaLas Palmas de Gran Canaria has everything you’d expect from a capital city, it’s lively and bright. Browse Mesa y López for a shopping session with big brands and explore Triana for smaller boutiques. History buffs favour a stroll through Vegueta, the original town of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, while beach lovers head to Las Canteras, one of the most beautiful city beaches in the world.

Gastronomy in Gran Canaria
If you are looking for international cuisine, the cosmopolitan city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will delight you. Visit the market in Teror to buy the municipality’s traditional chorizo, a sausage that is as sweet as it is savoury.
Further inland is Tejeda, which is known for its almond trees and sweet treats. Traditional gastronomy is omnipresent in Gran Canaria.
Bufadero La Garita
Bufadero La Garita on the east coast of Gran Canaria is a natural spectacle where the waves flow spectacularly through rock formations. This volcanic sinkhole, which borders the dark sandy beach of Playa de la Garita, creates a breathtaking spectacle by throwing water high into the air. Accompanied by the steady sound of the ocean tides, this is a magical place, especially at sunrise.
Valle de Agaete – Coffee plantation
Valle de Agaete in the north-west of Gran Canaria is one of the few coffee-growing regions in Europe. In this quiet village with a tradition dating back to the 18th century, Arabic coffee trees are grown in the shade of jasmine and fragrant mango trees. Coffee from Agaete has developed into a gastronomic product that is appreciated for its exceptional flavour.
