Advent in Budapest

Experience the pre-Christmas season in Paris of the East!

3 nights from
1,128 p.p.

Enjoy the Advent season in Budapest. The vibrant metropolis on the Danube and capital of Hungary is in no way inferior to its European capital rivals and is becoming an increasingly popular city destination.

  1. Christmas marketToday you will take an approx. 4-hour guided walk through the Christmas market. You have the rest of the day at leisure to visit other Christmas markets on your own.
  2. City tour and excursion to GödöllöTake a half-day city tour of the Buda side. In the afternoon there is an excursion to Gödöllö with a visit to Grassalkovich Castle. The baroque Grassalkovich Palace in Gödöllö was the summer residence and favourite place to stay of Empress Elisabeth, better known as Sissi. She and Emperor Franz Joseph I received the castle as a coronation gift.
  3. Palace of ParliamentAt 18,000 square metres, Budapest’s landmark is the third largest government building in the world. With its 365 towers and round arches, the 268 metre long neo-Gothic Parliament Palace on the banks of the Danube in Pest is reminiscent of the Palace of Westminster in London. The 96 metre high dome is also impressive. The Hungarian parliament consists of 700 rooms. The magnificent domed hall with the Hungarian royal crown is particularly worth a visit. The stained glass windows by Miksa Róth are also worth seeing.

Hotel Continental Budapest****

Budapest Dohany u. 42-44 1074 Budapest

This four-star design hotel in Budapest’s historic city centre exudes an individual style created from elements of Art Nouveau and modern interior design. The new hotel awaits its guests with 272 rooms – for the comfort of business travellers and tourists, 5 well-equipped conference rooms, the underground car park, wellness and fitness areas, a terrace restaurant, the gallery café, the lounge bar, inner courtyards and the panoramic roof garden are available.

The name Fischerbastei is not very glamorous at first. That’s why we find the building behind it all more impressive. The Fisherman’s Bastion looks like a fairytale castle from a Disney film: all white, with lots of pointed turrets and battlements. In the past, the castle was used for the fish market, among other things, hence the name.

The Castle Palace is not only the largest building in Budapest, but probably also the most famous. A visit is definitely a must on a city trip to Budapest. In the 13th century, the Castle Palace was once the residence of the Hungarian kings. But hardly any other building has undergone such a dramatic transformation as the Castle Palace, which has been constantly remodelled, destroyed and rebuilt over the centuries. Of course, the palace itself is worth a visit for its incredibly magnificent architecture. But there are also several museums inside, such as the National Museum and the Historical Museum, as well as the National Library.

A total of nine bridges span the Danube in the city. However, the Chain Bridge is the oldest bridge, which firmly connected the two parts of Buda and Pest. And especially at night, when the many lights illuminate the bridge massif, it could well be the most beautiful of the nine bridges.
