The Must-sees of the trip
- Furnas LakeThe hike begins by crossing the village to Furnas Lake. The village is picturesquely situated in the crater of an extinct volcano. At Lagoa de Furnas, the locals cook the popular dish “Cozido das Caldeiras”. This traditional stew is cooked in the volcanic heat of the earth. After about 3 kilometres, you will reach the chapel of Nossa Senhora das Victorias. You will try the stew for lunch. Afterwards, visit the Terra Nostra Park with its romantic hiking trails, exotic flowers, centuries-old trees and thermal springs.
- Praia da ViolaThis hike begins in Lomba da Maia on the north coast. Along one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline on the island. Water reservoirs, a watermill and lush farm fields line the route. End at the sea in Ponta da Maia.
- Sanguinho & NordesteThis short circular walk in Faial da Terra along a stream leads to the Salto do Prego waterfall. Continue to the old village of Sanguihno. After the hike, continue by bus to the Nordeste region. There are high mountains, deep valleys with raging rivers, peninsulas jutting out into the sea and marvellous views to admire.
