Welcome to Calabria, the hidden paradise of southern Italy! This fascinating region invites you to enjoy a holiday that combines natural beauty with a rich history and authentic culture. From the fine sandy beaches with crystal clear waters of Capo Vaticano and Tropea to the rugged mountains of the Sila, Calabria offers a breathtaking variety of landscapes. Explore picturesque villages nestled against cliffs, savour the rich Mediterranean cuisine and be enchanted by Calabrian hospitality. An unforgettable journey awaits you in this unspoilt corner of Italy.

  1. Reggio Calabria, Scilla and ChianaleaReggio Calabria awaits you with its magnificent palazzos and plenty of Mediterranean flair. You can admire the famous bronze statues “Bronzi di Riace” in the Archaeological Museum. Then drive along the beautiful Costa Viola to the idyllic, legendary fishing village of Scilla. The atmosphere in Scilla’s fishing neighbourhood of Chianalea, which nestles in the small bay below the cathedral and castle, has remained authentically Mediterranean. The name Chianalea possibly comes from the canali, small valleys between the rocky ribs on which the fishermen’s houses stand. According to legend, survivors of ancient Troy were the first settlers. 2. Le Castella and Capo ColonnaIn the morning, visit Castello Aragonese Le Castella. One of the most fascinating castles in Italy is located in one of the most beautiful parts of the “Capo Rizzuto” marine reserve, also thanks to its special position, as it is enthroned on a small island that is only connected to the coast by a narrow strip of land. Built in the 15th century, the fortress was a refuge for soldiers defending themselves against attacks from invaders from the sea. Continue to Capo Colonna. It is worth a visit both from an archaeological point of view and because of the extraordinary beauty of the coast. The Doric temple of Hera once stood where only a column remains today. (F,A)

The winding mountain road takes you to the “Serra San Bruno” Charterhouse, which was built by a German, St Bruno of Cologne. The route continues through a majestic landscape to Stilo, the great Byzantine centre of Calabria. The town’s most important monument is the “Cattolica”, a small but beautiful Romanesque church. (F,A)

Drive to the picturesque medieval town of Gerace, situated on a castle rock. The town’s biggest attraction is the imposing 11th century cathedral, which is considered the largest church in Calabria. Gerace is also famous for its ceramics production, which is still practised to this day according to age-old tradition. Continue to Locri. The ancient Locri Epizephiri was founded in the 8th century BC. Today, the extensive archaeological park bears witness to the town’s former wealth and economic importance. (F,A)
