Cyprus – Island of the Gods
Cyprus, the third largest island in the Mediterranean, in the very south of Europe, not only boasts exceptional temperatures, but also a joy of life and a unique culture.
Proud of its sunshine 340 days out of 365, Cyprus appears like Corsica turned upside down: Mediterranean landscape, vocation for seaside tourism, mountains in the centre and political tensions, which have been eased now. Cyprus, also known as the “Island of Love”, boasts exceptional landscapes and archaeological treasures that will enchant travellers in search of ancient civilisations. According to legend, the goddess of love Aphrodite was born in the foam of the waves off the coast of Cyprus… That’s why Cyprus has been dubbed “the island of love”! Fellow travellers, you’ll be welcomed with a smile on your face and warmth in your heart. If you’re a lover of old stones, the archaeological treasures dating back to the Neolithic period will enchant your quest for ancient civilisations. Make your way to Mount Olympus and join the ancient gods!
The Must-sees of the trip
- LimassolThe region of Lemesos (Limassol) embodies traditions and modernity, through its legends of kings, kingdoms and its ancestral wine-growing activity. Known as the region of wine, festivals and ancient kingdoms, Lemesos consists of a main town, situated between two important archaeological sites, the city-kingdoms of Amathus to the east and Kourion to the west, as well as rural areas and mountain villages, where ancient traditions and crafts are still practised.
- Excursion to Nicosia – the CapitalThe city of Nicosia has been the island’s capital since the Middle Ages. Here, you will visit the Büyük Han caravanserai (interiors). Considered to be the finest example of Ottoman architecture in Nicosia, this former trading post, where passing merchants could store their wares, was restored in 2002. You will then take a stroll through the traditional district of Laïki Geitonia. With its beautifully restored traditional houses and charming alleyways, this district will give you an image of the 18th century setting. A tasting of local products will be offered during the visit.
- Tombs of the KingsThe famous Tombs of the Kings are part of the archaeological park of Kato Pafos (Paphos), one of the most important archaeological sites in Cyprus and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rather than being the tombs of kings, they are actually the graves of high officials and members of the aristocracy, but the size and splendour of these vaults, some decorated with Doric columns, gave the site its majestic name. Some of the tombs reproduce the living quarters, with the burial vaults opening onto an atrium with a peristyle. They are similar to tombs discovered in Alexandria, attesting to the close relations between the two cities during the Hellenistic period. This site is one of the stops on the Aphrodite Cultural Route.

Blue lagoon
The Blue Lagoon in Cyprus stretches as far as the eye can see, attracting visitors with its crystal-clear waters. Its shape and colour make it unique and beautiful. In fact, depending on the sunlight, its colour can range from light turquoise to dark blue. It lies between Paphos and Polis and is one of the most famous sites in Cyprus. Its name comes from the pure white sand and crystal-clear water.
The lagoon is 10 km from the town of Latchi, from which boats depart regularly. It is only accessible by boat or on foot. There are many water sports available on this beautiful beach in Cyprus. Fans will be spoilt for choice between freestyle swimming, kitesurfing, windsurfing and surfing.

Aphrodite’s baths
The natural grotto of the Baths of Aphrodite and its botanical garden are located on the road linking the port of Lakki to the tip of the Akamas peninsula. Legend has it that the Greek goddess Aphrodite used to bathe in the waters of this grotto, in the shade of an old fig tree and surrounded by lush vegetation. According to myth, it was in this picturesque setting that she met her lover Adonis, who stopped to quench his thirst during a hunting trip and fell in love with her as soon as he tasted the water in the cave. The site is one of the stops on the Cultural Route of Aphrodite.

Nissi Beach
Situated 3.3 km west of the centre of the famous seaside resort of Agia Napa, this 600-metre-long beach is one of the most popular in the region, attracting crowds with its enticing combination of coastline, music, bars and beach parties. Covered in fine golden sand and formed inside a natural bay, it is sheltered from the winds. The sea is shallow and calm. It is part of the larger area known as Nissi Beach, and takes its name from the small island next to it [“Nissi” is Greek for “island”].
