  2. Faro Cathedral and the old TownThe old Town is rich in fabulous monuments and historic buildings. The Cathedral of Faro is its main landmark. Built in 1251, just after the Christians reconquered the city from the Moors, it was partially destroyed by the English in 1596. From the top of the Gothic tower, you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the city and the lagoon! The plaza in front of the cathedral is also a little gem, with its avenues of orange trees.
  3. Enjoy the local cuisineYou won’t be surprised: the local cuisine is rich in seafood, fish and other marine delicacies. Faro’s proximity to the sea means that many fresh and delicious products can be found on the plates of the town’s various picturesque restaurants. Discover the Ria Formosa by boat

The Faro coastline is characterised by an immense lagoon over 60 kilometres. Part of it has been preserved: the Ria Formosa. Discovering it is a must if you decide to visit Faro!

On a short boat cruise, or even a kayak excursion for the more sporty, you can admire all the natural wonders of the region, as well as Algarve’s unique flora and fauna, including pink flamingos and storks!
