The Must-sees of the trip

1. Marais de Kaw, CacaoWatch the birds awaken. Discover the Wapou Creek by canoe or pirogue and come face to face with giant otters. The shrub savannahs offer a variety of landscapes rich in orchids and bromeliads. Return to the jetty at Kaw and drive to Cacao (1.5-hour drive). The Hmong, these “outcasts” from South-East Asia, settled in Guyana in 1977 at the site of CACAO in the Comté below Saut Bief. You will discover the world of tanned faces, fields, “porcelain roses”, among which the “birds of paradise” mingle, and other flowers of the Balisier, all in an atmosphere that has lost none of its authenticity from the highlands of Laos. 2. KourouDeparture to Kourou (1-hour drive). Guided tour of the space centre, which extends over 75,000 hectares and employs more than 1500 people. Today it is the “space harbour of Europe”. You will immerse yourself in the exciting world of high technology. Led by experienced guides, you will take your place in the control centre, where you will be given a presentation, followed by a two-hour tour of the various facilities, subject to operational restrictions. The afternoon is at leisure. Accommodation at the Hotel Atlantis in Kourou***.
3. Les îles du SalutGet on board a catamaran and sail to the îles du Salut (approx. 1.5-hour journey). Arrival on the Ile Royale. Guided visit of the Ile Royale to retrace its history. On the island, you can observe many agoutis, but also monkeys, macaws, iguanas, etc. in the wild. There are numerous paths on which you can explore the island individually. You can swim in the “convicts’ swimming pool”. Lunch without drinks. Boat trip to the island of St Joseph. Free time to visit the remains of the convicts’ cells and enjoy the beautiful shell beach. Return to Kourou, transfer to Cayenne and check-in at the Mercure Royal Amazonia hotel****.
