Experience the Atacama Desert & Patagonia up close!
Discover the magical landscape of Chile from north to south with us and ULT. The metropolis of Santiago de Chile offers plenty of culture and welcomes its visitors with a very special flair. The Must-sees of the trip
- Santiago de ChileSantiago de Chile combines the characteristics of a modern metropolis in an up-and-coming country with those of a city steeped in history from the colonial era. During a private city tour, you will visit both the historic centre and the modern side of Santiago. In the city centre you will see the Presidential Palace, formerly the national mint and therefore called “La Moneda”, the historic main square or “Plaza de Armas” with the cathedral and the beautiful old post office; the “Palacio de la Real Audiencia”, which today houses the National History Museum and the “Casa Colorada”, the historic residence of the governor during the colonial era. Passing the “Cerro San Cristóbal”, a hill in the centre of the city from whose summit a statue of the Virgin Mary overlooks the city, the tour continues to Santiago’s modern business districts
- Atacameña Farm and Salar de AtacamaGet to know a traditional farm in the Atacama region and taste typical local products. The visit begins with a guided tour of the farm’s own garden, where you will gain an insight into the regional cultivation of fruit and vegetables and livestock farming. You will then learn about the end products and, of course, be able to sample the delicacies produced on the farm. You will also visit the Salar de Atacama, a salt lake of gigantic proportions: 3000 square kilometres! Due to the evaporation of the water, there is a thick layer of snow-white salt crystals on the surface as far as the eye can see. The world’s largest lithium deposits are located here, but the Salar is also home to flamingo species
- Geysers of El Tatio and Puritama Thermal spaIf you want to experience the geysers of El Tatio in action, you have to get up early, because when the morning sun rises over the hot springs at an altitude of more than 4,300 metres, the fountains spray up to 10 metres high. The light of the rising sun, which touches the hissing fountains of the geysers and makes them glow in many colours, then forms a strong contrast to the rising columns of steam and the surrounding peaks. The excursion starts in the very early hours of the morning in San Pedro in order to be at the geyser field in time for sunrise.

Full-day excursion to the Petrohue waterfalls and the Osorno volcano
Experience this day trip to the beautiful surroundings of Puerto Varas. The journey along Lake Llanquihue offers impressive views of the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes. The first stop of the day is the wild “Saltos de Petrohue”; a collection of rapids and waterfalls that dance over impressive formations of lava rock from the surrounding volcanoes. The water of the Rio Petrohue itself has eroded and moulded these rocks over thousands of years. From there you drive up the Osorno volcano (2,660 m).
This road ends at an altitude of 1,200 metres at a mountain hut – the views from here of the huge towering Osorno volcano and the surrounding volcanoes Calbuco, Antillanca, Tronador and the deep blue Llanquihue Lake are unforgettable. Take a hike on the immense lava fields of the volcano – and improve the panoramic view with every metre of altitude you gain.
San Pedro – Calama with a visit to the Altiplano villages
On the transfer to Calama, you will visit the village of Chiu-Chiu. The 17th century San Francisco church in this village, which was founded by the Spanish, is often described as the most beautiful in the Atacama. Its walls are 120 cm thick! After you have explored the village and the church, you will continue to the next stop, the Lasana Fortress (Pukara de Lasana). The fortifications of this small village were built in the 12th century in the Ta of the Rio Loa. As you drive through the valley, you can recognise petroglyphs on the mountain slopes. Afterwards, you will be driven to Calama.
Valparaíso with a visit to a winery in the Casablanca Valley
Your tour guide will welcome you in the morning and accompany you on this full-day excursion to Valparaíso and the Casablanca Valley. The traditional city of Valparaíso is home to Chile’s oldest and most important harbour; the Congress and Senate also reside here. When democracy was restored in 1989, the National Congress was moved here from Santiago. The city’s many hills are dotted with colourfully painted houses that provide a fantastic backdrop and give Valparaíso its very own flair. It is no coincidence that the historic centre of Valparaíso with its colonial architecture has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The upper and lower parts of the city are connected by 16 inclined lifts, which were built at the turn of the century (1900) and are still in service day in, day out. One of them will take you to a viewpoint. During your city tour, you will also visit the government building and the Plaza Sotomayor with its monument to heroes. Before your city tour in Valparaíso or afterwards, you will visit a winery in the Casablanca Valley.
