1. MeteoraMeteora is a collection of huge rocks, on top of which stand centuries-old Christian and Orthodox monasteries. It is the largest archaeological site in Greece, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1989 and has been an official holy site in Greece since 1995. Its name literally means “hovering between heaven and earth”, as it is difficult to access. So you will be one of the privileged few to see it! Below the monoliths lies the town of Kalambakalies, famous for its local meat and cuisine. The region is so famous that James Bond, Britain’s most famous spy, climbed the Monastery of the Holy Trinity in 1981 for the filming of the movie “For Your Eyes Only”. The complex, which is also known as the “eighth wonder of the world”, is impressive.
