Our insider trip in a small group to special winter experiences in Switzerland. Experience the Festival of Lights with IGE, a colourful illumination in the Zähringen town of Murten at the lake of the same name. In Kandersteg, we travel back in time to the Belle Epoque with a nostalgic programme of fascinating events and historical costumes. Finally, we head to Lucerne on Lake Lucerne. A place of well-being and the cultural centre of Central Switzerland, nestled in the wintry landscapes between the mountains and the lake.

The Must-sees of the trip

  1. The Festival of Lights in MurtenThe tour guide welcomes the group at 12 noon. The IC train then takes us on a fast journey to Bern, from where we travel a short distance by S-Bahn to Murten. On arrival, we check into our rooms and familiarise ourselves with the town. From 6 p.m., we experience the Festival of Lights in Murten, which stretches from the lake into the town with its illuminations. Experience colourful light shows on buildings, live performances, works of light art and much more. This fascinating event lasts until around 10 pm. Overnight stay in Murten.
  2. Off to the Belle Époque in KanderstegAfter breakfast at our hotel, we take the train from Murten via Bern to Kandersteg without any luggage. The luggage travels ahead directly to the hotel there. On arrival, we immerse ourselves in the world of the turn of the century before last, the Belle Époque. Historical costumes, traditions, culinary delights and memories of another era dominate the scene in this high Alpine mountain village in the Bernese Oberland. After enjoying the traditional 3 p.m. afternoon tea, we plunge into the hustle and bustle. In the evening, a multi-course menu awaits us before we round off the day at the lounge bar in the hotel. Overnight stay in Kandersteg.
  3. Nostalgic hustle and bustle under the motto “Photo and film”Freshly fortified, after breakfast we experience further presentations in the village under the motto “Photo and film”. Interested travellers have the opportunity to hire a suitable outfit from the costume shop and join in the hustle and bustle themselves. The exact programme for this day will be published at the end of November 2024. Enjoy the performances at your own pace. At lunchtime, the hotel will offer a small lunch, and in the evening we will enjoy a special gala themed dinner. We can review the day in the lounge bar. Overnight stay in Kandersteg.

From Kandersteg to Lake Lucerne for fondue fun

On Friday, we take it easy before travelling without luggage by train through the Kandergrund to Lake Thun and Spiez. We continue along the lake to Interlaken. A narrow-gauge central train will take us along Lake Brienz and over the Brünig Pass to Lucerne at Lake Lucerne.

Winter landscapes alternate between lakes and mountains. We check into our hotel in Lucerne in the afternoon. When it gets dark and the lights are shining all around us, we head to the lake and round off the evening with an enjoyable boat trip and a fondue. Overnight stay in Lucerne.
